The Instax Square SQ40, the newest model in the line of Instax instant cameras and printers, has been announced by Fujifilm South Africa. This SQ40 is an analogue instant camera with a retro design. It works with the well-liked Square format film.
The SQ40 has a vintage camera aesthetic similar to that of the Instax Mini 40 and Instax Mini Evo. The camera body has a black base tone, which is enhanced with a hint of silver and premium-feeling leather-look material. The surface of the SQ40 is coated with a nice feel that fits comfortably in users’ hands. A secure carry cover will also be available.
The ease of use of the Square SQ40 reflects Instax’s commitment to making photography as simple as possible. Users only need to twist the lens barrel to activate the camera’s Automatic Exposure mode, point the camera towards the subject, and push the shutter. This achieves optimum exposure for a given scene by automatically adjusting the shutter speed and flash output to suit each scene. This means the subject is perfectly exposed, whether in the sunny outdoors, poorly-lit indoors, in close-ups and selfies.
Additionally, users can simply rotate the lens barrel to turn the camera on and then rotate the barrel again in the same direction to switch to the Selfie Mode. The Selfie Mode works best at distances of 30 cm to 50 cm, and a tiny mirror on the front of the lens serves as a framing aid for the ideal picture.
It will take about 90 seconds for the print to develop once your picture is taken. Let me remind you that the Instax UP! app allows you to take photos of any Instax print so you can save it or pop it up on your social media.
Although the local release date and suggested retail price have not yet been determined, the Instax Square SQ40 will be arriving in South Africa soon soon! I’ll keep you updated!
Instax Mini Evo also now in brown
A brown variant of the Instax Mini Evo was also introduced alongside the Instax Square SQ40. The Mini Evo is the line’s flagship device. The Mini Evo was previously only offered in black, but now a brown version is being delivered to South Africa on a limited basis. 10 lens effects and 10 film effects from the Mini Evo can be combined to produce prints that are genuinely one-of-a-kind. For added convenience, the brown Mini Evo will now also include a USB Type-C charging connector – super!
The exact release date and suggested retail price for the Instax Mini Evo brown have not yet been determined either.
