The home of Nokia smartphones, HMD Global, today revealed their plans for Circular, a new subscription service with the aim keeping sustainable.
But wait!…. there was more… Alongside Circular, four new products go on sale, including the Nokia X30 5G, the company’s most environmentally friendly smartphone to date. This phone is made is of 65% recycled plastic and 100% recycled aluminium and this little madam got to hold one, right here at an exclusive event for media in Berlin.
The plan for Nokia still doesn’t stop there, additionally, the company plans to introduce more environmentally friendly packaging putting their money where their mouth is when they say they plan to #PlayTheLongGame.
Meet Circular
Circular in simple terms is a new subscription service that makes the use of a Nokia not only easy but also more environmentally friendly. With a variety of green prizes, Nokia encourages consumers to retain their phones for longer.
By preventing smartphones and tablets from ending up in landfills and providing them a second life, Circular helps to reduce the harmful effects that phone ownership can have on the environment.
Nokia devices in the subscription model are either recycled, refurbished, and resubscribed, or donated to a nonprofit organisation that needs them. Additionally, Circular lets users select and modify their subscription. Without additional monthly fees, any unintentional loss, theft, or damage will be compensated, and if necessary, a prompt replacement will be scheduled.
“Sustainability is important to customers when it comes to connected electronics devices,” says Ben Wood, CCS Insight: CCS. “Insight’s research shows that roughly half of consumers in key European markets believe that creating products that last longer is helpful and positive for the environment. HMD continues to encourage consumers to keep their device for longer and with Circular, it also means devices stay out of landfill. Electronic waste is an issue the whole industry must address and services like Circular are a positive step towards creating change.”
