More commonly known as the Nokia 8110, there’s no doubt you’ve seen this weird and wonderful contraption around.
The retro design was made famous by the Matrix phenomenon and now seems to making its way back into stores. Us mere mortals however will, unlike Neo, not be saving the world but rather occupying our time playing snake.
The Nokia 8110 runs on Smart Feature OS. This means no access to Android apps. There are rumours of an app store being developed for the device, which will include Facebook.
The phone includes a 2MP camera, a 2.4’’ curved display, 512 MB Ram, and 4 GB storage.
Nokia promises seven hours of talk time, 45 hours of music playback, and a whopping 25 day standby time.
There was no mention of price for the phone yet but us die-hards will be waiting with baited breath, just like we did for the 3310.
It wouldn’t be fair though not to mention the new comers to the Nokia stable. Settle in, you’re in for some great stuff. HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, last week locally announced the availability of the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 plus and the new Nokia 6 in South Africa. These award winning new Android One Nokia smartphones were initially introduced at Mobile World Congress in February earlier this year, and are expected to be available through Cell C, MTN and Vodacom as well as selected retailers this month.
Delivering all the craftsmanship you’d expect from a Nokia phone, each new smartphone offers durability and reliability as standard, with the range setting new benchmarks in materials and design.
Pure, secure and up-to-date, reinforced with Android One commitment
The new additions to the Nokia smartphone range, join the Android One family, offering a high-quality software experience designed by Google. Android One devices are expected to stay fresh over time with the latest Google innovations and regular security updates. The new range of Nokia smartphones on Android One comes with no unnecessary UI changes or hidden processes that would consume your battery life or slow it down, this means you can enjoy your phone for longer. All Nokia smartphones in the Android One programme, will come with a limited number of pre-installed Google Services apps so that you’ll get more storage space and a streamlined, easy-to-use experience.
By shipping with Android Oreo out of the box, you’ll be able to enjoy the latest Android features, including Picture-in-Picture for multitasking, Android Instant Apps to discover and run apps with minimal friction, 60 fantastic new emojis and battery-maximising features like limiting background app use.
